Clicker training for dogs
A clicker marks the exact moment your dog gets it right. Here's how to charge it, use it and when a word works just as well.

A clicker is a small device that makes the same short sound every time. In training, that click means “yes, exactly that, a reward is coming”. Because it’s fast and consistent, it helps dogs understand what they did right.
Step 1: Charge the clicker
- Have 15 small treats ready.
- Click, then give a treat within a second.
- Repeat in a few different rooms.
- Test it: click when your dog isn’t looking at you. If they whip round, it’s charged.
Frequently asked questions
Is clicker training better than using a word?
A clicker is more precise and always sounds the same, which can speed up learning. A marker word works well too and is always with you. Pick one per skill and be consistent.
Do I have to click forever?
No. The clicker is for teaching. Once a behavior is learned, you can drop the click and reward with praise and life rewards.
